Steve Hackett - Spectral Mornings (1979)

Though I didn't own a copy of the former Genesis guitarist's debut LP, 1975's opulently melodic 'Voyage of the Acolyte', I was often borrowing it from a younger and richer schoolmate.

However, it's this third album — full of memorable tunes that are more tightly composed than Genesis material — that finally got me to part with my hard-earned money. Like many of the albums I was listening to at the time, this brings back a flood of memories every time I hear it these days.
